Great Weekend

Wow! What great weather this weekend. Lots of riders, a girl scout troop just had a fantastic time. Finally started working on my new sign. Got the footers dug and the concrete poured. Now, we just need to build the concrete block supports and cover them with stone. We are pulling rocks out of White Lick Creek to use as the veneer on the posts, it should look great. Finally was able to pick up a horse that Danielle is training for the next 30 days. The owners had been having trouble loading it so we went to pick it up. I had Danielle use some of the techniques that Marie learned at the Equine Affaire. The horse loaded right up, no problem. It's nice when you are able to use a technique that we learned from someone and have it actually work. There are so many trainers out there that act like they are experts and really are not.

I had an incident relayed to me over the weekend. One of my boarders took a friend to see a horse for sale. The expert horse trainer was riding her prized Stallion while we were looking at the horse for sale. The Stallion started acting up, how did this expert trainer respond? She beat the horse with one of the reigns, kicked him in the balls and hit him with a board. Now I am no expert but I do know enough to know that is no way to train a horse. That is why it is so important to spend time at the location where you are buying a horse, see how they treat all of there animals, look at the condition of the barn. Then you will have a good idea what kind of horse you are going to get.

Warm weather?

I keep waiting for this warm weather to stay. It seems we just start enjoying it and its back down to 50. Good weather for growing grass though. We have re-seeded a lot of the areas that were trashed over the winter. Between the constant rain and flooding all of the pastures were barren. We are keeping the horses in our sacrifice area and still feeding hay. I really like keeping them on hay year round and only allowing them access to the grass as a treat. I have read too many bad things about horses and green grass, founder, colic etc, that we are very careful.

The kids had there first open arena this past week for 4-h. Carissa who didn't want to do anything where she cantered was galloping around the huge arena by the end of the night. We have our first open show this weekend, hopefully I can talk her into doing some of the contesting events. She is definitely going to do the halter class and walk trot, and Corinne is going to do some of the contesting events. It should be a lot of fun.

Beautiful Weekend

What a great weekend we had. Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops came out to earn there merit badges. I think they had a great time. The boy scouts camped for the weekend and did some orienteering as well as fishing. We had quite a few trail riders out as well as a new boarder. Rikki Good bought a Tennesse Walker and had it delivered on Saturday. Rikki a first time horse owner very excited but very nervous as well. We had Dr. Frank Stokes out to take a look at her and I think she is going to work out well for Rikki. We wish her all the best. Finally found a new saw dust supplier. We have really been scrambling for a while to find someone. You would think we were trying to buy gold. Lots of demand little supply, so I hope this is going to work out for us. We also have a new horse coming today that Danielle is going to put 30 days of barrel work on. She is really excited about it and so are wel.

Web site up and running

After much hard work on the part of Sim2K, our web site is up and running. I am very happy with the content so far. We are planning on a lot more features in the future so stay tuned. But for now, send us your comments and suggestions.

What a change in the weather from last week. I was so excited about the beautiful warm weather and then, what a mess. We did have a beautiful day yesterday 04/10 but it looks like it is going to be nasty again. Glad we have the indoor arena finished so we can still give lessons and work the horses inside. Kids are starting to get ready for the 4-h show season, this will be our first year, so we will see how it goes.
